October is the perfect time of year to enjoy the many events and activities South Florida has to offer.
With the weather finally cooling off enough to allow for action and adventure apart from just hitting the beach or the boat, we thought it was time to share some of the great things happening in our community this month.
–The Miami Broward County Carnival: The event kicked off at the end of September and runs until October 8. Two counties teamed up to offer this great series of fall events.
Events will take place throughout the area and include a parade, many concerts, and a steel band competition.
-Fantasy Fest: This adults-only party is huge and includes incredible floats, costumes with contests, street fairs, live music, and of course tons of good food.
The festival runs in the Keys from October 19 to 28, with the grand event, The Headress Ball on October 25 on Key West.
The Headdress ball is the festival’s foremost gay and lesbian event, the attendee with the best headdress will go home with a cool $3,000 prize.
Book your tickets early for the ball and don’t forget this year’s theme, “Oh….The Games We Play.”
–Celebrate Orgullo: October is Hispanic Heritage month throughout the country and south Florida does it best when it comes to celebrating.
Orgullo means pride in Spanish, and the 15 day long series of events is focused on celebrating Hispanic LGBT pride.
Events include art showings, a tour of Little Havana, a writers workshop, and plantain festival. Extra exciting, this year will include a celebration of Celia Cruz with a look-alike contest and film screening. The events run from October 1 to 15.
These are just a few of the great events and activities South Florida has to offer this month. There is so much to do and experience in beautiful south Florida!
