TEXANS 42*** – Dolphins 23 (Texans -7.5…o/u 45 OVER) The game started out with a Dolphins TD. The Texans answered with two TDs and the Fins added a FG at the half and we had a close game. Then the second half happened. The Texans outscored the FIns 28-13 in the 2nd half with two DeAndre Hopkins TDs and a huge Will Fuller TD as well. Team stat wise, this game was actually very even. But it wasn’t on the scoreboard. Deshaun Watson had a monster game. He had a seriously accurate 16-20 for 239 yards. But he also had FIVE TD PASSES with 0 INTs. Lamar Miller added 18-133 yards and a TD. Will Fuller (who got hurt in this game) had 5-124 yards and a TD and DeAndre Hopkins had 6-82 yards and 2 TDs.
Brock Osweiler had a very mediocre day. He went 21-37 for 241 yards. He had 0 TDs and 1 INT. DeVante Parker showed up with a 6-134 yard day. Kenyan Drake went 12-58 yards with a TD rushing and 2-37 yards with a TD receiving.
MY TAKE: The Texans are absolutely red hot! They have won FIVE IN A ROW! This game was also their highest point total on the year. They now have a firm grasp of the division. Everything is going their way. The bad news is that they did lose Will Fuller in this game for the season. That is a stinger. But this team should pick up the pieces and be fine. We shall see. The Dolphins have lost four of their last five. It is getting bad in Miami. Tannehill is out. Osweiler is running for his life. They lost Albert Wilson for the year. Kenyan Drake doesn’t seem to get more than ten carries a game. And the defense just gave up 5 TDs and 42 points to Deshaun Watson. Miami is in real trouble. With New England now in full stride, Miami has no shot in the division. Now it is Wild Card or nothing, as it has been for at least ten years.
JAGS 18 – Eagles 24*** (Eagles -4…o/u 44.5 UNDER) The game started off with a trade of FGs back and forth until Philly tacked a TD on at the end of the half to lead 10-6. The teams traded TDs in the 3rd quarter as well. Philly held on to the lead by scoring a TD in the 4th quarter as the Jags only had two FGs. Each team had four sacks and a fumble recovery. Carson Wentz went 21-30 yards with 286 yards and 3 TDs with 1 INT. Blake Bortles had 24-41 for 286 yards with a TD and 0 INTs. He also led the team in rushing sadly, going 8-43 yards. Newly acquired Carlos Hyde and TJ Yeldon combined to go 8-18 yards.
MY TAKE: The Jags continue to slide. They looked bad again in London. They managed one TD in this game. The really bad part for the Jags is not only is the offense a joke now. It is that the defense is no longer scary or even that good. They have given up 30, 40, 20 and 24 in four straight losses. This team is in real trouble. They benched Blake Bortles for Cody Kessler. It is all bad. Still no Leonard Fournette. They have a miserable running game. The Eagles at least have gotten to .500. They still aren’t exactly exciting, but they are holding on. Carson Wentz is doing fairly solid. They also have zero running game. The Eagles still have a shot in their division, but it will be a fight with Washington and Dallas.
PANTHERS 36*** – Ravens 21 (Ravens -2.5…o/u 44 OVER) The game started with a trade of TDs in the 1st quarter. Carolina busted it open in the 2nd quarter by scoring 17 straight points. After the FG in the 3rd they scored 20 straight points. The Ravens finally scored very late in the 3rd quarter, but this game was over. The Panthers added 10 points in the 4th and it was a wrap. The Ravens who benched Joe Flacco in the game did get a Lamar Jackson TD pass with a minute left in the game. Along with the 2 picks, the Panthers had two sacks and forced a fumble turnover. Joe Flacco had a terrible game. He went 22-39 for 192 yards and 1 TD. He had 2 INTs. Cam Newton, on the other hand, went 21-29 for 219 yards and 2 TDs with 0 INTs. Alex Collins went 11-49 yards with a TD. Cam Newton led the team in rushing yards again. He went 10-52 yards with a TD. Christian McCaffrey had 2 TDs (one receiving and one rushing). He had 56 yards total.
MY TAKE: This was an interesting one. Both teams are good teams. It is surprising that Carolina beat the Ravens so badly. One thing the Panthers do so well is that they can run. And run well they do. Getting Greg Olsen back has been huge. He is a total stud. Don’t let the score fool you. This was a total blow out. The Ravens got a very late junk TD, so this game actually was 36-14.
BEARS 24*** – Jets 10 (Bears -8…o/u 42 UNDER) The Bears took the lead in the 1st quarter with a huge 70-yard Tarik Cohen TD from Trubisky. The Jets could only muster a FG in the first half. The Bears added to their lead in the 3rd quarter with a TD. They took a 17-3 lead with a FG to start the 4th quarter. The Jets scored in the 4th try to get back in the game, but the Bears ended that with a TD in the 4th. The Bears outrushed a good running Jets team 179-57 yards. They had a 395-207 total yard difference. The Jets had eight punts and eight penalties. Sam Darnold continued his struggles. He went 14-29 with 153 yards and a TD. Isaiah Crowell had a paltry 13-25 yards. Mitch Trubisky went 16-29 for 220 yards with 2 TDs and 0 INTs. He added 6-51 yards rushing. Jordan Howard went 22-81 yards with a TD. Tarik Cohen had 110 yards of combined offense with a TD.
MY TAKE: The Bears are clearly the better team. They put themselves in first place with this win. They are in a division that is very tough as every team still really has a shot. The Jets are 3-5 and really have nowhere to go. Without Bilal Powell the running game has taken a hit. Sam Darnold still is throwing at a 50% clip. If the Bears can find some balance in their running and passing game they can be a lot more dangerous. It just seems like they are asking Trubisky to do too much.
BENGALS 37 – Bucs 34*** (Bengals -3.5…o/u 54.5 OVER) This was an incredible offensive game. The Bengals jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the game on two Joe Mixon runs and a Tyler Boyd from Andy Dalton TD pass before the Bucs scored a TD themselves late in the 2nd quarter. The Bengals answered that TD with an AJ Green score. The Bucs added a FG to end the half down 27-9. The 3rd quarter had a trade of TDs by the two teams including a pick-six from Winston for the Bengals. The fourth quarter was all Tampa Bay as they benched Jameis Winston for Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bucs scored 18 unanswered points to tie the game but left just enough time for the Bengals to kick a game winning FG.
Tampa Bay had 576 total yards in this game. The Bengals had 402 yards too. The Bengals sacked the Bucs six times to go with the four interceptions. Andy Dalton went 21-34 for 280 yards with 2 TDs and 0 INTs. Jameis Winston looked terrible again. He is a turnover machine. Sacked five times. Had FOUR INTERCEPTIONS. One for a TD. He went 18-35 for 276 yards and a TD. Ryan Fitzpatrick came in to replace the terrible Winston and had an 11-15 for 194 yards line. He had 2 TDs and 0 INTs. Peyton Barber went 19-85 yards and a TD. Mike Evans had a sick 6-179 yards with a TD. DeSean Jackson and O.J. Howard both had TDs as well. Joe Mixon had 21-123 yards and 2 TDs. Tyler Boyd went 9-138 yards and a TD. AJ Green went 5-76 yards and a TD.
MY TAKE: For a game that looked like it was all Cincy for the taking, they did all they could to give this game away. Jameis Winston was benched after throwing four INTs. The last one being a pick-six. Ryan Fitzpatrick came in and did great. He even gave the Bucs a chance to win this game. Tampa is in last place. They will not make the playoffs. That is a fact. Cincy, on the other hand, is right in the thick of their division. Andy Dalton and Joe Mixon are playing very well. Actually, Tyler Boyd and AJ Green are playing well too.
LIONS 14 – Seahawks 28*** (Lions -3…o/u 48 UNDER) Detroit drew first blood with a Marvin Jones Jr. TD in the first quarter. The Seahawks struck back hard with THREE Russell Wilson TDs to three different receivers. Nobody scored in the 3rd quarter, as the two traded TDs in the 4th quarter. Russell Wilson had an incredible amount of yards (248) considering he went 14-17. He also had three TDs and 0 INTs. Chris Carson had 25-105 yards with a TD. DJ Moore, Tyler Lockett, and Ed Dickson had TDs. Matt Stafford went 27-40 for 310 yards with 2 TDs and an INT. Kerryon Johnson was a no-show again going 8-22 yards. Marvin Jones Jr showed up going 7-117 yards with 2 TDs.
MY TAKE: Russell Wilson has gotten hot. The Seahawks are quietly very hot right now. They have won four of their last five games, only losing to division leader and best team in football, the LA Rams. They are in prime position to get the Wild Card. Time will tell. One thing that sets the Seahawks apart, is that they can run the ball. They are one of the few teams that has a 20+ carries quality running back.
CHIEFS 30*** – Broncos 23 (Chiefs -8.5…o/u 53 PUSH) Denver actually scored first in this game on a Phillip Lindsay TD run. The Chiefs hit back with 17 straight points to take a lead. Denver was able to hit a TD pass from Case Keenum to close out the half only down 16-14. The Chiefs really stole this game in the 3rd quarter adding two TDs while Denver was shutout. Denver did their best to come back from a huge hole scoring a TD to start the 4th quarter and kicked a late FG as well, but it just was too little too late.
The Chiefs had five sacks. Somehow, Denver outrushed the Chiefs 189 yards to 49 yards. A total of 17 penalties in this game. Denver had three fumbles and lost one. Case Keenum went 23-34 for 262 yards with 2 TDs and an INT. Phillip Lindsay went 18-95 yards with a TD. Pat Mahomes had another big day. He now has 8 straight 300-yard passing games after week one of the season. Mahomes went 24-34 for 303 yards with 4 TDs and 1 INT. Kareem Hunt had 86 total yards with a TD. Sammy Watkins went 8-107 yards with 2 TDs. Travis Kelce went 6-79 yards with a TD.
MY TAKE: The Chiefs are showing that they still are one of the best teams in the NFL. They scored another 30+ in this game against a good defense. Pat Mahomes continues to have an MVP season. Denver will scratch their heads and wonder what to do. They probably will not make the playoffs. They are even starting to question their Case Keenum move.
GIANTS 13 – Redskins 20*** (Skins -1…o/u 44 UNDER) Washington took the lead on an Adrian Peterson TD pass from Alex Smith. The Giants kicked a FG in the 2nd quarter. The Skins kicked a FG in the 3rd quarter. That was it. The teams each scored a TD and FG in the 4th quarter. So that Peterson TD in the first quarter was the difference maker. The Redskins outrushed the Giants for an amazing 182-37 yards. The Skins had SEVEN SACKS. There were a total of nineteen penalties in the game (eight against the Giants, and eleven against the Skins).
Alex Smith went 20-32 for 178 yards and a TD. Adrian Peterson had two TDs (one rushing and one receiving) and he had 26-149 yards rushing. Eli Manning went 30-47 for 316 yards with a TD and 2 INTs. Saquon Barkley had a dud going 13-38 yards rushing and 9-73 yards receiving. Odell Beckham had 8-136 yards.
MY TAKE: More of the same from the Giants. Not a lot of points. And another loss. Washington has to be so happy that they pulled the trigger on Adrian Peterson. He has had a great year and more than likely will be comeback player of the year.
STEELERS 33*** – Browns 18 (Steelers -8.5…o/u 47.5 OVER) The Browns actually started the game off with two FGs in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Steelers got 2 TDs from Antonio Brown to take a 14-6 lead at the half. In the 3rd quarter, the teams traded TDs but the Steelers did get a safety midway of the 3rd quarter. The Steelers buried the Browns with another FG and TD in the 4th quarter. The Browns tacked on a very late TD at the end of the game. The Steelers were 6-13 on 3rd downs. They outrushed the Browns 168 yards to 74 yards. The also had 421 yards total compared to 237. There were 15 penalties in the game (eight for Browns, seven for Steelers).
Baker Mayfield went 22-36 for 180 yards and 2 TDs and an INT. Nick Chubb went 18-65 yards. Jarvis Landry had a paltry 8-39 yards. Big Ben went 24-36 yards with 257 yards with 2 TDs and an INT. James Conner had an amazing day going 24-146 yards and 2 TDs. He added 5-66 yards receiving as well. Antonio Brown went 6-74 yards along with his 2 TDs.
MY TAKE: The Browns continue to slip. They were a thorn at first, but have now become a doormat. They have lost three in a row and gave up 30+ in two of those games. The Steelers are in first place and have won three in a row. The offense looks just fine without LeVeon Bell. James Conner is saving them a ton of money at running back. Like every season, the Steelers will be in the playoffs. What they do once they are there is the big question.
RAIDERS 28 – Colts 42*** (Colts -3.5…o/u 51 OVER) The Colts jumped out 10-0 in the 1st quarter lead. The Raiders snapped back two score two TDs in the 2nd quarter. The Colts added a FG to close out the half only down 14-13. The 3rd quarter of the game was a punch counter punch as the Raiders scored a TD, the Colts answered back with a TD only to have Oakland score a TD to close out the 3rd. The Colts destroyed the game in the 4th quarter with the Colts scoring three TDs in the 4th quarter. Marlon Mack scoring two of those. The Colts had 28 first downs in the game. They went 9-13 on 3rd downs. There were twenty penalties in the game, ten for each team.
Andrew Luck had 22-31 for 239 yards with three TDs and 0 INTs. Marlon Mack went 25-132 yards with 2 TDs. Jack Doyle had 6-70 yards with a TD. Derek Carr got back on track going 21-28 for 244 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. Jared Cook went 4-74 yards with a TD. Seth Roberts and Brandon LaFell had TDs as well.
MY TAKE: The Raiders really are that bad. A game against another not-so-great opponent and they still could not get it done. They completely folded in the fourth quarter. This was as good as the Raiders could play and it wasn’t good enough. It really is sad, but like I said, this team has imploded. As you can see from their record, I was correct. The Colts are still in the hunt in a small way for the Wild Card. I don’t see them overtaking Houston in the division, but stranger things have happened.
CARDINALS 18*** – 49ers 15 (49ers -2.5…o/u 40 UNDER) Total dud of a game. Started out with a San Fran safety in the 1st quarter. The teams traded FGs in the 2nd quarter for San Fran to take a 5-3 lead at the half. San Fran added a TD in the 3rd quarter to go up 12-3. The Niners started the 4th quarter with another FG. They let the game comp[letely slip away by giving up a Larry Fitzgerlad TD in the early 4th and a game-winning TD at the :34 mark. CJ Beathard went 14-28 for 190 yards and a TD. He was sacked four times. Marquise Goodwin had one big catch for 55 yards and a TD. Josh Rosen looked a little better. He went 23-40 for 252 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT. Larry Fitzgerald had 8-102 yards and a TD. David Johnson continued his terrible season going 16-59.
MY TAKE: The Niners lost both games this year to a terrible team. Josh Rosen had his first comeback game-winning performance, so tip your hat to him. There also was a Larry Fitzgerald sighting for the first time in a while. David Johnson still is underperforming. The Niners should be pissed. They lead this entire game and totally blew it.
RAMS 29 – Packers 27*** (Rams -7.5…o/u 57 UNDER) Green Bay jumped out to a 10-0 lead by the start of the 2nd quarter. The Rams answered back with a safety and a TD to make it a 10-8 lead for Green Bay. The third quarter got much more active. The Pack went up 13-8 with a FG. The Rams answered back with two TDs to take the lead. Green Bay said not so fast as they scored to close out the 3rd only down 23-20. The Rams kicked a FG in the start of the 4th. The Packers scored halfway through the 4th to take a one-point lead. A huge turnover gave the Rams a chance to win, and that is what they did with a game-winning FG. The Rams went 8-18 on 3rd downs. The teams combined for eight sacks.
Aaron Rodgers went 18-30 for 286 yards with a TD. Aaron Jones went 12-86 yards with a TD. Davante Adams had 5-133 yards. Jared Goff had a decent day. He went 19-35 for 295 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. Todd Gurley had another monster in his MVP season. Gurley had 25-114 yards rushing and 6-81 yards with a TD receiving. Unknown Josh Reynolds went 3-42 yards with 2 TDs.
MY TAKE: Poor Green Bay. This was their shot to take down Goliath. They literally fumbled it away. The Rams came away still undefeated and Green Bay sits in third place in the NFC North. Todd Gurley is amazing and is on his way to an MVP season. Pat Mahomes may get it over him, but Tom Brady certainly won’t. Cooper Kupp is out and they miss him. He will be back soon.
VIKINGS 20 – Saints 30*** (Saints -2.5 o/u 54 UNDER) The teams traded TDs in the first quarter. The teams also traded TDs in the 2nd quarter, but the Saints added a 52 yard FG as well making it 17-13 Saints lead at the half. The Saints took the game in the 3rd quarter with a FG midway through the 3rd as well as a pick-six TD by the defense. The Saints added another FG before the Vikings added a TD with too little too late time for a true comeback. Interestingly, the Vikings had 10 more first downs, went 5-10 on 3rd downs, went 2-3 on 4th down, and had 150 more total yards. The Vikings however, did get sacked four times while getting zero sacks. They also had two fumbles, one of which was a turnover.
Drew Brees went 18-23 for a measly 120 yards and a TD with 1 INT. Ingram and Kamara combined for 108 yards rushing with a Kamara TD rushing. Kamara also had a TD receiving with 7-31 yards. Kirk Cousins went 31-41 for 359 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT. Latavius Murray went 13-56 yards with a TD. Stefon Diggs actually outperformed Adam Thielen going 10-119 yards and a TD as Thielen still had a great game going 7-103 yards with a TD.
MY TAKE: This was a revenge game for the Saints after the Vikes got their miracle in the playoffs last season. Revenge was achieved. And the crazy part is, is that Drew Brees probably had his poorest game of the season. Kirk Cousins is playing well, but is he doing anything better than what they had last year with Case Keenum. Is patience running short? Maybe a little bit. Still No Dalvin Cook. Adam Thielen is the best wideout in football this season. He has reached 100 yards every game this season so far, eight in a row.
BILLS 6 – Patriots 25*** (Patriots -13.5 o/u 44 UNDER) Started out as a defensive dud. The first six scores of the game were FGs. It was 12-6 in favor of New England entering the 4th quarter. The fork was stuck in Buffalo in the 4th when the Pats added a James White TD and an 84-yard pick six TD by Devin McCourty. Tom Brady set a personal record throwing 29-45 for 324 yards and had 0 TDs and 0 INTs. It was the most attempts he has ever had with no TDs. Julian Edelman went 9-104 yards receiving. James White had his standard 10-79 yards. Derek Anderson went 22-39 for 290 yards with an INT. Chris Ivory and LeSean McCoy combined for 18 carries for a terrible 47 yards.
MY TAKE: Give Buffalo credit for staying in this game for as long as they did. They have no talent and gave it their all with basically a third string QB. The Pats are rolling. They have won five in a row, and are set to win their division again. They, along with the Chiefs are the kings of the AFC.
Bye Week: Falcons, Cowboys, Chargers & Titans
ATS 8-6…..Over/Under 5-8-1
YTD ATS 56-63-2…..Over/Under 60-60-1
