I was watching videos late last night on YouTube and I got a recommended video in the right column that I never thought it existed. It was such fucking clickbait. The title of the video was, ‘I Bought a Mystery Box from Dark Web & It Was Scariest Thing I’ve Ever Done (Deep Web Challenge)’. As a former seller on eBay and on Craigslist, I am surprised how this never dawned on me. I am also a follower of the ‘deep web’ as I am well familiar with TOR, Silk Road and Bitcoin (the preferred method of payment in the deep web). I knew that people sold grab, and mystery boxes, but I guess I never thought that people were doing this with ‘illegal’ goods via the ‘deep web’.
From watching this video, I also came to see that there were a ton of these videos. Clickbait matters and people click on these videos. Shit….I did! We will get to these other videos in a minute and what I and other people think of them.
Now, as far as the first video I clicked on. It is from a verified YouTube channel named Kill’em which has a very healthy 2.4 million subscribers! As a matter of fact, in ten days the video I watched has amassed a huge 4.7 million views!
Now I don’t want to give anything away in the video. But there are a couple of basic facts that I can tell you.
- He ordered 5 DEEP WEB MYSTERY BOXES for 500 pounds each box.
- He unboxes all of them in the video.
- He had NO IDEA what he was going to receive.
- Seeing as it was bought from the DEEP WEB, the boxes would more than likely contain illegal or bizarre goods.
I watched this video on the edge of my seat wondering what in all hell, these crazy people are sending to random strangers. It was from this video and the countless others that I watched that I have now learned that there is a pattern, and that these are kinda hard to believe that they are real. I truly wanted to believe that they are. But I think you will see that they aren’t.
One pattern that feeds the skepticism, is just how many views these videos get. It totally feeds the fact that people what hits and these videos generate them, as most challenge videos do. This dude’s whole channel has been questioned as being fake, besides this DEEP WEB video I watched.
What is your opinion? What do you think? Is this creepy? Is it silly? You decide and let us know.
