Everybody’s favorite undercover actor Sacha Baron Cohen, the man that brought you Ali G, Borat, Bruno, General Aladeen, Jean Girard and more, is baaaaaaack! And this time he seems like he is getting a lot more political.

Here is the teaser for his new SHOWTIME series, “Who is America?” which will debut on July 15th, 2018 at 10PM EST. The teaser doesn’t show much as all seems to be super secretive. What we do know is that Dick Cheney is definitely interviewed. By who or what character, we don’t know. We know that Cheney signs a waterboard kit that is provided to him. The teaser with Cheney was provided via Sacha’s Twitter account.

“That’s a first,” Cheney says afterward, looking up at someone off-screen, still smiling. “That’s the first time I’ve ever signed a waterboard.”

Cohen, who usually is not active on Twitter, tweeted on July 4th, a video with Donald Trump insulting Cohen, telling him that he needed to go back to school to learn to be funny. The graphic shows while Trump is ranting is that “Sacha Graduated.”

After the tweet, Variety reported that Baron Cohen was in talks to rehash a show in the similar mold of his Ali G Show. Well, he certainly has that show now. Showtime is calling the show “perhaps the most dangerous show in the history of television.”

There is talk that the show will be aimed not only at Republicans but at Donald Trump specifically, for which Baron Cohen has a history.

Trump’s insults came about from when he was clowned on the HBO version of The Ali G show, by Baron Cohen. Trump also tweeted about it, letting everybody know that he caught on to the scam and walked out faster than anyone else before. Baron Cohen countered that Trump stayed for seven minutes, which is a long time by his normal interview standards, he claims.

Here is that segment:

We also now know that Sarah Palin was interviewed. Media reports are going crazy after Palin let it be known that she was caught up in the net of the new show’s trickery. On Palin’s Facebook account, she goes in on Baron Cohen for tricking her. (In fairness, Baron Cohen has to trick everybody to land the interviews) It wasn’t necessarily the trickery that she takes umbrage with. It is more about what Baron Cohen did to land the interview. According to Palin, Baron Cohen disguised himself as a disabled vet to sell the ploy. It was probably the ONLY reason Palin agreed to attend. Palin stated on her Facebook, the following:

(Palin) was contacted via a speakers bureau for a “legit opportunity” to honor American veterans and contribute to a Showtime historical documentary. (Palin) said that once she arrived, she was met by someone who she presumes was (Baron) Cohen, heavily disguise(d) as a disabled U.S. veteran, “fake wheelchair and all.”

“I sat through a long ‘interview’ full of “Hollywoodism’s” disrespect and sarcasm — but finally had enough and literally, physically removed my mic and walked out. The disrespect of our US military and middle-class Americans via Cohen’s foreign commentaries under the guise of interview questions was perverse … Mock politicians and innocent public personalities all you want, if that lets you sleep at night, but HOW DARE YOU mock those who have fought and served our country. Truly sick.”

She does have point. It can be seen as disrespectful that he made himself a disabled vet to land this. Clearly it is in bad taste. But on the other hand, Baron Cohen has never cared about bad taste. Have you seen the “naked 69 scene” in Borat or all of Bruno? It is quite clear from those films, he isn’t about that life.

I am a huge fan of Sacha Baron Cohen, and I will watch the show. I have always followed his stuff, and I will definitely want to see how he pulled these off. According to Matt Drudge of the world famous Drudge Report tweeted a lsit of names that got burnt by Baron Cohen this season. It looks like he got people on both sides of the aisle.

At the end of the day, we just have to be happy that the master is back. He will always have his critics. He will have people that disagree with his liberal, European, Hollywood politics. He will also have those that think he is tasteless, disgusting, vial, offensive and just plain rubbish. But we know all of this already, and for that, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise at this point. I’m more concerned with one thing that he’s gonna be or not, and that is …..funny!
