2012 Opening Ceremonies
The opening ceremonies tell the story of how the United Kingdom was born. Music, the industrial revolution, children’s book characters, and the technology revolution are all part of the storytelling that took place in this year’s Opening Ceremonies.
The Ceremonies ended with Beatles legend Paul McCartney singing “Hey Jude” while the torch was being lit.
During the ceremony, 204 countries made their walk into Olympic Stadium. Team USA’s flag bearer was fencing star Mariel Zagunis, with over 600 athletes following behind him. This year also marks the first time in US history that the women Olympians outnumber the men. Miami Heat’s Lebron James and Chris Bosh were both part of the parade, marching into the arena underneath the stars and stripes.
SIDENOTE: Team USA went with a British look to their uniforms for the opening ceremonies.
