The Democratic October Surprise is upon us and it involves Hollywood super lawyer Gloria Allred!
Allred has apparently uncovered an old legal case where Mitt Romney, the Republican candidate for President of the United States, may have lied under oath.
It all started with Maureen Stemberg Sullivan, ex-wife of Staples founder and Romney pal Tom Stemberg. According to Allred, Romney was called to testify in the Stemberg’s divorce and when he did, he perjured himself. During the divorce hearing, Romney told the court that staples was “overvalued” so that Sullivan would get less money from Stemberg.
Here comes the bad part. Directly after the divorce was settled, Romney and Stemberg both sold their shares of Staples to Goldman Sachs for an absolute fortune. Basically, Romney lied under oath to screw Maureen Stemberg Sullivan out of her fair share of her husband’s money.
Currently, Allred is in Boston attempting to have the court records unsealed with the help of Sullivan and the Boston Globe. This could be a huge hit to the Romney campaign among female voters, who already feel his policies target their reproductive rights. [Gawker]
