The article below from the Kansas City Star is about my good friend Eric Henry’s brother. From what I’ve been told, this was a good kid that made some bad decisions in life and is now lucky to be alive and will be locked up for the next 20 years. Nic Henry was shot 14 times and once right through his head, he won’t be freed from prison until he’s 48 years old. It’s a lesson to us all to think about the consequences of every situation and to try to make good decisions in life.
Man who started gunfight with FBI in Olathe gets 20 years
A federal judge in Kansas today sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for starting a shootout with FBI agents in which he was shot 14 times.
Nicholas H. Henry, 28, of Kansas City, Kan., narrowly survived the gunfight on Nov. 1, 2009. He recently pleaded guilty to attempting to kill an FBI agent and to discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
Two years ago, Henry was in a stolen pickup truck when FBI task force members and Olathe police attempted to arrest him in a shopping center parking lot at 151st Street and Ridgeview Road.
As they tried to serve an arrest warrant after Johnson County prosecutors had moved to revoke his probation, Henry pulled a pistol out of the truck and shot at an agent who was less than 10 feet away.
He missed. The agents did not, hitting him 14 times, including once in the head.
But the head shot exited without penetrating the skull and two bullets in the chest just missed his heart.
His father, Robert Henry, said afterwards that his son had been in trouble with drugs and the law since he was a teenager. “I hope this wakes him up,” he said at the time.
He said his son told him: “Dad, I never want to be shot again. It hurt.”
